Finally I succeeded at ‘time bending’! LOL (You know, as in slowing time down so a week feels like a very long time, instead of a ‘blink of an eye.’)

I had no choice… I wanted time to slow down. Between arriving from Croatia and leaving on my tour next Friday, I have 11 days – to spend time with my boys, my mom, and enjoy the last of the summer in the south – when I come back, the leaves will be all gone, and my garden will be bare.

Yea, a little part of it is the fact that we flew ‘back in time’ on our way home (and literally ‘gained’ 7 hours), and a little bit of it is the jet lag which helped me to experience a lot of quiet hours BEFORE 7 am… haha (I’m not a morning person…)

But other than those two tiny little helpers, I did it all by myself! 🙂

I stayed peaceful all week, focused on each present moment and not allowing anything to disturb that. Not the news or politics, not the piles of paperwork on my desk, not my long to-do list… I looked at all of it with a sense of calm and handled it all as it came – one at a time.

I was grateful that what I had experienced in Croatia – the same sense of calm amidst some big responsibilities (and a few stressful situations) – I was able to bring home.

And what THAT is, is three things:

Mindfulness, Simplicity and Surrender

It starts with being mindful of our intention, of all that distracts us, pulls us away, and of all that brings us back to it. It helps to be mindful about how we feel, listen to our bodies and our emotions and then mindfully chose our actions. (I really wanted to slow down this week – and get everything done.)

Mindfulness brings us a new perspective on life and all in it. A new prism through which we can see all that is unnecessary – and let go of it. We are able to see simple solutions even for the most complex situations. The best part? We find so much joy in simplicity that we become motivated to simplify even more.

I watched leaves fall off the tree in my backyard one morning. Neither the leaves, nor the wind, nor me were in a rush. it was magical… the tree was letting go of what it no longer needed. I brought my laptop outside and worked with the same sense of natural pace… I had to work on the logistics of the tour – booking hotels and flights, which is not something I don’t particularly enjoy doing because I tend to overthink the available options. But once I let go of what’s not necessary, it was easy… and simple 😉

What happens next is Surrender… sweet sweet surrender. In which we know all will be well – the leaves will come out again in the spring, and so, there is no sense in trying to control the process.

And when we surrender, we become mindful how all of it is wondrously connected and time as we experience it, collapses into one present moment that feels like it will never end… (I’m not there yet, but will keep you informed… I only get glimpses of it now and then – and sometimes… like this week, a pretty good number of glimpses… haha)
