Now is the time to be calm and to radiate peace into the world.

All the years of practicing compassion, love, meditation – all the time we spent in contemplative prayer – we now get to apply and bring into the world.

Many of you have shared with me your deeply personal stories – full of emotional pain and suffering – and I want to thank you for trusting me with your vulnerability and wholeheartedness.

When I was on the road, I’d spend hours after the concerts holding hands with women and men who would start with ‘I never told anyone…’ and spill their beautiful hurt hearts to me. We cried together and held each other until the peace and grace flushed the pain away (something I miss so much now that COVID has us socially distanced).

I get the pain. And I get how the pain – when held inside – can grow into anxiety, fear, mistrust, anger or depression, and despair. I get how the pain gets triggered by unsettling situations and can come out as anger.

I get it because I’ve been there. Many times.

But I’ve also been through a journey of healing.

And I know how it feels when your whole being is settled into that deep peace, unafraid of what’s coming, and ready to radiate Love. Because once Love heals our own pain, she sticks around and we begin to radiate and spread that Love throughout the world around us.

So… pull out all your supplies of holy water, wrap yourself in Grace and become a healer. Please, don’t get sucked into a “Call of Arms.”

This is not the time to be Joan of Arc – we are not at war. It’s time to be mother Theresa – we are all hurting together.

Here is a thought I found in my diary from the fall of 1991 – just as the war in Croatia broke out.

“I walked through the old park and, although it’s late in the fall, I noticed that the trees are holding onto their leaves.

As if they were waiting for us humans to stop fighting and look up, and take in their beauty before they get bare for the winter.

Because there will never be another fall of 1991, and those trees will never be the same again.”

Today, I want to share with you the music from
(un)Broken – “Autumn Leaves” in French:

Here’s a Story from my (un)Broken book to accompany that song:

“The first leaves that turn red and gold
Bring this song to me every fall.

And with every leaf, every word, and every note
I allow myself to fall
A little deeper
Into pain,
Into love,
Into healing.”

I also invite you to listen to my short reading from another section of the book:

Coaching:

Take some time this week to sit down and reflect on these prompts:

  • What are some of the ways in which you can take action and spread kindness, non-judgment, love and healing into the world?
  • Can you recognize times this week when your hurt is triggered and it comes out as anger, judgment, blame, or fear?
  • What are some of the ways in which you keep the balance between enjoying nature’s beauty, blessings that each day brings, and staying well-informed about the world’s events?
