Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” A friend of mine and I were talking recently about it in terms of always being too busy to do things we love and want to do.
And the same day, I saw this on my Instagram feed “Adulthood is saying ‘But after this week things will slow down a bit’ over and over until you die.” I dropped most of the work tasks off of my to-do list to focus on my son’s 16th birthday.
This was something I couldn’t put off. It was happening then and it would never happen again. And still, I didn’t do one thing I wanted to do for him… There just wasn’t enough time in my day.
And yes, I did promise myself that “I would still do it after this week…” What I wanted to do was create a memory book of all of the adventures he had with his dad… because both of us miss him terribly at this important time of Blais’ life.
As we were leaving for his birthday dinner, a red robin flew near us and sat on the lowest branch in front of our house. (Someone had told me a red robin would always show up as a reminder of Matthew’s spirit that’s always near to us.)
You can imagine how much I wished he was here with us. And how painful it was thinking of all that he wouldn’t be able to do with us.
I could almost hear him say: “When I get better, we will…” There were so many times recently that I caught myself thinking, “Is this really important right now?” Making zucchini bread, watering the plants, having breakfast with Blais after getting his driver’s license, sitting down with my boys, and just enjoying eating slowly.
And the answer was “Yes! Absolutely”. Making zucchini bread is more important than cleaning or doing work that truly can wait. (Ok, writing the newsletter couldn’t wait, LOL)

I also bought a ticket to go to Croatia to visit my mama next month, because I want to see her. I can probably wait until October, when I’m going on a business trip to Croatia (a coaching retreat!!!) but then again, I also want to go now.
I also spoke with a few people about patterns: the patterns of repeated behaviors, or thought-cycles that keep us imprisoned in unpleasant situations.
Like saying “After this week, things will slow down.” And repeating the same busy schedule, keeping the same priorities instead of shifting them so something can actually change and allow us space to spend time on the things we want to be doing instead.
Or eating the same way and choosing foods that we know for sure will NOT help us lose weight, or feel healthier, and might trigger bad reactions such as migraines.
Or thinking the same thoughts, like “I should just stay silent and not rock the boat”. Or staying around those that leave us feeling defeated, humiliated, unworthy of love.

2. What would you like to bring in more of, as you release that pattern?
