On my flight back from Croatia I sat next to a young girl. She said she was coming back from Scotland where she was doing research as a part of her college class.

I asked her what she was studying. “Most people think it’s totally weird,” she said, and added in a bit quieter voice: “I study philosophy.” “Oh,” I said, trying to contain my excitement and not freak her out LOL.

She was stuck in the window seat with nowhere to escape on an 8.5-hour flight. “I promise I won’t talk your ears off and bother you, but I have to tell you, I love, love, love philosophy!” Her eyes got wider and I could sense her smile behind the mask that covered half of her face.

I told her I was a music artist, a writer, and a coach and that I spent all of my life “philosophizing” LOL. (As per the University of Florida, “the term “philosophy” means, “love of wisdom.”

In a broad sense, philosophy is an activity people undertake when they seek to understand fundamental truths about themselves, the world in which they live, and their relationships to the world and each other.)

We spoke for two hours. She was incredibly insightful, articulate, curious, and wise. It was such a gift talking to her.

I love young people and their curiosity about life and meaning, their determination to live with purpose and intention, and their commitment to making a difference in the world.

I spent the rest of the flight thinking about the joy and aliveness that comes with curiosity and the freedom to explore big, existential questions. It’s incredible when we ponder, discover, and connect with the truth of who we really are – when we strip away all of our pretend layers, our safety layers, our status layers, and pretty filters, and when we heal the layers of hurt and pain that cover up the authentic vulnerable beings that we are.

My trips to Croatia always bring up the subject of living authentically vs. trying to fit into someone else’s expectations of us. This time, I felt like people around me had changed. They are more vulnerable, open, soft. They were both seeking connection and needing space.

I don’t know if they really changed. But I know for sure that I have. Because I’m more at peace with myself, and because I learned to be present, I am able to see them with a new understanding and compassion.

Life is so much better when we see the connectedness in everything and when we accept humans as beautiful souls in human bodies.

Please let me know how I can support you to experience this sense of bliss, peace, and joy. It’s really how we are meant to feel. It’s just that with the overwhelming demands of our modern world, too many of us have forgotten.

Spend some time this weekend philosophizing with a good friend or family member. Let me know if you have any breakthroughs!

Music

Even though Covid canceled my concert on Peljesac, I still got to sing with the local band! It was amazing. There was a 5-year-old girl who knew all of my songs but looked at me as if I was a unicorn – a mythical being LOL.

There was a group of young teens that danced and sang with me and brought me so much joy. And there were a whole lot of people my age – who remember exactly the feeling we all experienced 30 years ago.

Here is one of the songs from that period. It’s called “MY Generation” and it is about not giving up on our dreams, even though we are older 🙂
